Dog Wool Ball FAQ:
|
|
|
How do I choose which size ball is right for my dog?
Great question and a tricky one.
- First: How much does your dog weigh? The larger the dog, the larger the ball.
- Second: How big is your dog's mouth? The bigger the mouth,
the bigger the ball.
- Third: How aggressive is your dog with its toys? If he/she is really
aggressive, go with the larger ball because it has more wool and will
last longer.
As with many other life decisions-it is all about balance.
How durable are the wool balls?
Again, a great question and tricky. In general these are
more resilient than most toys. The balls are solid wool so they can
not be destuffed or broken in half. Wool felts to itself in many
different places so one of our wool balls has a multitude of internal
bonds holding it together. You cannot break it apart like a tennis
ball. They can be torn up and chewed but this takes either a very
special dog or lots of effort. We have customers that still have an
intact ball over a year later.

Why should I wash the dog's wool ball?
Washing your ball will give it new life. When you wash the ball, per
the instructions it comes with, you are reproducing the conditions in
which it was made-theoretically it is rejuvenated by your efforts. Of
course, you also get a clean fresh ball so that your dog can bury it
yet again.
Why do dogs love wool?
We think this is about the smell and texture. Dogs can smell lots of
stuff we cannot. We think synthetics smell really yucky to dogs. When
we make a wool ball we only use gentle dish washing liquids and water.
The wool does not contain dyes. All the dog smells is the fresh
animal quality of the wool. Also, the wool gives in to the teeth of
your dog in a nice real way. It doesn't bounce off his teeth like
rubber or vinyl but, rather, gives in a resistant tactile fashion that
just simply feels good to your dog.
Safety and Wool balls
Please make sure to observe your dog with our wool balls. If he/she is
super aggressive with their toys, observe them while they play. Some
wool fuzz is fine but eating a toy, any toy, is not a great idea.
If your dog is aggressive, wash the ball frequently-a few times a
week. You don't have to do an extra load-just throw it any wash you
are doing. You can also cut off any extra fuzz that is being produced
with heavy chewing-then, wash it and roll it, while wet, between your
palms.
