Newsletter Winter 2007

Dear Friends:
During our travels in 2006, we met a wide range of people who not only
adored their pets but were very concerned about the Earth. Our
feelings for our pets and the earth are linked; compassion and wonder
welling from the same inner sources. When I watch Winston (our once
feral and very ill cat) play, I am awed by his ability to forgive and
prosper. When I watch the first spring butterflies working themselves
around my garden I am often surprised they would risk such an early
foray into the crisp spring air. But... this is what nature
does... it rebounds and fills our lives and this world with new
energy and life. It is a blessing to simply be present for these
daily events.
When we help to rescue an abandoned or abused animal we are often
rewarded by the sweet experience of observing this animal emerging and
coming into its own-learning to play, relax, purr, and lie contentedly
in the sun. For us, this becomes a treasured moment, a moment that
will carry us thru other efforts that appear not to have a happy
ending. But even these less happy attempts have their own sweetness-we
tried, we reached out, we risked caring, and believed, in that moment,
that our efforts could make a difference. Simply put, we had hope for
a better world.
So, along with providing you with information on our
annual giving-a bit late due to moving our lives from one location to
another-we want to say Thank You for believing in "this old world" and
in acting out this belief. Many of us wish we could do more, adopt or
foster more, give more-there seems to be an unending need. In the
face of this need your efforts are that much more significant.
We wish you a hope filled 2007!
